These Home Gym Designs are Everything Right Now

While having a basement or attic gym might sound like a perfectly sensible, functional way to stay active, working out in damp, gray, bleak areas is highly demotivating, causing a general feeling of repulsion – as if coming up with enough motivation for a workout wasn’t hard enough to begin with.

There is nothing better to keep you busy than a redesign project for your own home gym, and when it's complete, you'll honestly want to spend time there.

Mind you, this is not a story that focuses entirely home gyms alone. Regular gyms are often as bleak as they get. While it's pointless to relocate in hopes of a better view and a purer air, places like the Harbour Gym in London, the E At Equinox in New York, Wellness Sky in Serbia are all excellent places to model your own gym after.

However, you don’t need to own a huge building complex in order to provide yourself with a lucrative place for a workout. Owning an amazing home gym is not all-that difficult nowadays, all it takes is a room plan you decide on before you start shopping for equipment. That said,  you should definitely take a month in a regular gym beforehand, to get the idea of which exercises work for you and which don't.

If you’re hell-bent on having an attic workout room, here’s an idea for you: installing roof windows can do wonders in making an otherwise dreary space a heavenly place to shed some weight and build muscle. Sunlight is not only a huge morale booster, but it is also the best way to increase your vitamin D levels!

While we're upstairs, consider how great an attic is for yoga sessions. Keep the room spacious and open,  not overly crowded by equipment (a couple of mats, an exercise ball and perhaps some cardio machine will do). Keep it well-lit and you will be able to relax and enjoy your pristine, peaceful yoga room. Plenty of empty space around you will not only help your mind escape to a peaceful place of its own, but the great view will supply you with something to get lost in as you relax after your session.

Of course, if you live in a sunny part of the world and can spare a large room with a balcony, placing equipment there is a great idea. Even large windows cannot compare to having an open door into the great outdoors. Make sure you turn all your gym appliances, like cardio equipment, towards the outside, because a view like that works wonders providing mental relief – something everyone who has ever used the treadmill knows is of huge importance while working out.

What every professional gym offers and almost every home workout area lacks in, are large mirrors. If you own commercial fitness equipment to begin with, and a house with a large, unused basement, we’re sure you have plenty of empty wall space too. One of the best ways to provide yourself with some motivation is to install a large mirror. Thus, you can see the progress that you've made and give yourself a push towards achieving your goals, whatever they might be. In addition, mirrors provide you with more opportunities to hang a plasma TV set, what with the reflection in mind.

In truth, home gyms really do not need to be overly decorated. Roomy, well-lit, and clean, this part of your house could very well be a place to either release all previously stocked-up negative energy, or simply relax and meditate before, during, or after your yoga sessions. Either way, we hope that these designs serve their purpose, and inspire you to come up with your own brilliant ideas.
