Desert Lotus Hotel In Mongolia

Far, far away in the Xiangshawan Desert, 800 kilometers west to Beijing an architectural wonder has appeared back in 2013. I know it's not news, and it's not new, but i think writing about this beautiful hotel it's a must for every Interior Architecture and Design Blog out there.

Located in Inner Mongolia, the Desert Lotus Hotel's structure consist of repeating triangular white tent tops, rotated 45 degrees and connected together in a circular formation like a lotus, hence it's name.

No tiles or bricks were used in the construction, only low carbon environment friendly materials that utilize solar, water and wind energy in the desert. So, it's not only green and nature friendly, but it's also a very smart building.

Made by PLat Architects, this beautiful hotel uses the terrain around it to be stable and to hold the position perfect, in almost any condition. Desert Lotus Hotel uses a new structural system that fix in fluid sands using only steel panels without the help of concrete or water. The panels and the supporting skeleton structures are pre-fabricated, and make the base of the building a large container for sands. Thus, the steel panel structure can function as a boat floating on desert that carries the building.
