Whenever there is a style in
question, the word retro is bound to appear.
What retro really means is not
that something is simply old, but that it was once a class and was afterwards forgotten
only to reappear again.
When modern architecture is concerned, today we live in
an era of great innovation and inventions but sometimes looking backwards is
the best course of action there is.
Reconsideration
Although modern arts and sciences
are constantly pushing forward, one could safely say that in architecture, more
has been forgotten than any single person could ever invent in a generation.
Luckily for us as a species, in this field nothing remains lost for long and a
solution that is really brilliant in its nature is bound to be soon
rediscovered and have its own new big entry. Here are some of these new/old
building methods.
Your own hobbit hole
Hobbit Hole |
Now, this is a technique that you
don’t see every day, but it was used for the construction of some of the oldest
human dwellings there are. This building method was long since forgotten but
the new Peter Jackson trilogy managed to “dig it out” once more. Still building your own hobbit hole is not an easy task. It is a
slow process, which requires a lot of patience and skill, meaning that it is
not something that you can do in an afternoon. If you think that you can just
dig a hole in the ground and inhabit it several weeks later you are bound to
have a bad time.
First of all,
zou need to
check if the type of soil qualifies for such a construction, and to get the
right building materials. All you need to do afterwards is to compose a solid
plan and conduct a proper research on this topic or even hire a professional
help. This could be a bit pricier but in the long run – it worth every penny.
Pyramid
Here is a structure that was
initially so original and so perfect that architecture didn’t manage to add
anything new to it for the last 6000 years. Talking about ancient
building methods, there is nothing more efficient and famous than pyramid.
However the main reason for the grandiose return of the pyramidal homes isn’t
their structural stability, nor is it their amazing aestheticism. The best
thing about these modern pyramid homes is the fact that they are very energy
efficient.
Another thing to considerate it is an option of
implementing a glass wall, which will allow your home to receive an incredible
amount of natural light. So, to recap: a
pyramid has natural energy field, it's energy efficient (especially if you put
solar panels on its sides), and you can make interesting interior setup. A
notion like no other and yet another reason why turning to pyramidal structures
even at the beginning of 21st century is in not such a bad idea.
An Eco-village homestead
Although we live in a world that
becomes more and more urbanized, we are aware that our future lies in
self-sustainability, which means returning to our roots. An ancient village
homestead made today out of wood beams, cement, stones and cinder blocks is a
cheap, durable and efficient housing solution that was used for the longest
time in the past and was never really surpassed. The key thing however is that
you will be able to further utilize its surroundings to create a really
self-sustainable homestead.
As for the decoration, everything
is up to you. Although you want your home to look as appealing as possible, it
would be ideal if at the same time it could still preserve a lot of its
authentic look. In order to achieve both these things simultaneously, it would
probably be for the best if you turned to commercial painters
for help.
The important thing is to remember
that it is still your home that we are talking about so it is of key
significance that you remember to select and enhance it with
a style that suits you the most. The only thing we wanted was to remind you
that sometimes great ideas come not only from looking forward but from
scratching through the past as well.
