Water Motifs in Your Home

Just like water is essential for our survival, it is important to have an element of water in our living space, literally or symbolically. Recent studies have shown water has consciousness and can be programmed with energy, its structure changes according to the type of energy we send to it.

Water also relaxes us, calms us down and has a positive effect on our mood. Having the water element nearby also reminds us of the importance of water and grows our environmental awareness. According to Feng Shui, the old Chinese art of space decoration for the best flow of life energy or chi, it is important to have a healthy balance of the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, and water) in our house.

Water represents purity, abundance, fluidity and freshness, and this element is best placed in the North, East and Southeast. So how do we include the element of water in our homes? Here are a few quick tips.

Fountains and bowls

The best way to introduce the element of water into your space is to actually have running water in the forms of a fountain. These can be big or tiny, depending on your house, and beautifully arranged with a small indoor garden. If you don’t want to go that far, keeping a bowl filled with water is a simple option. You can change the water and the decorations every day, adding floating candles, flower petals, essential oils and such.

Aquariums

Another excellent way to have the element of water in your house is to have it in a closed container, that is an aquarium, together with sea weeds, pebbles and fish! Nowadays there are many aquarium designs you can choose from, in any shape and size.

They can be built inside our wall, or be a big round statue under our staircase, they can be the center piece in our living room and replace our TV. It is like having a piece of sea in our home, we just have to make sure we keep them clean with Stefmar’s seachem for good visibility and healthy ecosystem. We can create even greater harmony and flow in our space by installing multiple symmetrical aquariums on opposing walls for example.

Images of water

You can open up your north wall with a huge photo wallpaper of a beach, ocean or a waterfall. A modest way is getting a frames photo of some water scene, river, lake, sea, you can even take a photo by yourself or easily find some online. Frame it in black as this is also the color of water. Good old oil on canvases with water motifs will be great, too.

Blue and black

These two colors represent the element of water and you can use them separately or together or in combination with white. Blue color wall paint is the easiest way to achieve the shift in energy and there are many hues available. Match them with images framed in black frames. Get blue cushions, throws, rugs and other accessories like blue glass vases and bowl, lamps or even chandeliers made of blue glass. Add in some mirrors and your aquatic world will double and reflect.

Waves and curves

These shapes are symbolic of water so they are also a good way to bring the element of water alive. We can get furniture, rugs and throws with a wavy pattern, in print or in texture. Designer lamps with flowing curves will fit in well, as well as metal decorative objects like ashtrays, bowls or candleholders.

Remember it is best to do everything with measure, keep it subtle, visually pleasing and functional. Balance the water element out well with the other four and enjoy the free flow of life energy in your home.
